IIT-JU inaugurated 'Machine Learning and Data Science Lab'

A Machine Learning and Data Science Lab has been inaugurated at the Institute of Information Technology, Jahangirnagar University today.

As the Chief guest, a Member of the University Grants Commission, Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taher inaugurated the lab on Monday (August 22) at 10 am.

Professor Dr Md Nurul Alam, the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), and Professor Dr Rasheda Akhtar, Treasurer of the university, were present as the special guests at the inauguration ceremony.  

Professor Abu Taher said in his speech, "We did not get the benefits of the first three industrial revolutions. Because we came later in the age of ICT, now the fourth industrial revolution will happen depending on the third industrial revolution. To contribute to the fourth industrial revolution, it is necessary to become proficient in information technology now.” 

“The demand for skilled manpower in information technology is increasing daily. The government has given attention to this sector also."

He highlighted the data of an international research organization and said, “There is a danger that 800 million people will become unemployed by 2030. On the contrary, employment opportunities for 1 billion people will be created. Everyone needs to become fit for such new employment."

In his brief speech, he emphasised revamping the education system besides improving personal skills.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Nurul Alam said, "In the current era, overall development is impossible without information technology improvement. Our IT institute have always contributed to various tasks including university admission examination management. The lab inaugurated today will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to this field. It is hoped that skilled manpower will be created from this lab, and they will majorly contribute to the fourth industrial revolution."

Hosted by Mehreen Ananya, Lecturer of the Institute of Information Technology, Dr. Shamim Al Mamun, Teacher of the institute, addressed a welcome speech in the ceremony. 

Director of IIT Dr. M. Shamim Kaiser presided over the occasion. He thanked all the attendees of the program.
