The Spartans' Communication Club (SCC), the flagship business club of Faculty of Business Studies (FBS), University of Dhaka has recently organised a month-long event named 'Freshmen Glory 2018'. It was a competition solely designed for the freshers of FBS to give them idea about business competitions and to help them build up their communication skill from the beginning. Workshops were arranged to give them necessary knowledge about different aspects of business competition and in each round the participants got exclusive guidance and mentorship to groom them up.

The SCC felt the necessity to groom the freshers from the very beginning and have arranged the first session of 'Freshmen Glory' last year in 2017. This year the event has become successfully bigger and better with the support of BYLC as the leadership education partner and Skill Hunt as the knowledge partner. The winners earned the exclusive opportunity of scholarship in the leadership development and skill-based training related programmes of BYLC and Skill Hunt which will help them in paving their way of self-development and it will aid them in their future accomplishment.

The event was divided into four segments-- an online round, group discussion and situational analysis, instant case solving and grand finale. About 460 participants registered to be a part of the contest through the online round. After a screening process 250 participants were selected to advance to the first round. This round involved two phases. Group discussion was arranged in the first phase. All the participants were divided into small groups  and they were asked to discuss and come up with a solution through which communication and team working skill enhanced. The second phase was a situation analysis round where their individual analytical skill was judged.  Based on the performance of group discussion and situation analysis, 80 participants moved to the second round. After that, an exhaustive workshop was conducted where ins and outs of business competitions were  discussed along with different tools, techniques and strategies that can help solve business cases efficiently. After the workshop, the participants were divided into a group of four and they were asked to solve a case instantly and present their solution. For the finale, the top 24 people divided into eight teams battled for the glory where they had to solve a business case and present it to the judges, each team had the guidance of a mentor to assist them in preparing solution. 'Team Guilt Trip' was crowned champion.  'Team Icarus' became first runner-up and 'Team Ecnomiasts' second runner-up.

Parbon Acharjee, president of the SCC, said, "SCC always works for the development of the students of FBS. Freshers need grooming to tackle the world of business competitions. For this, Freshmen Glory is arranged each year. We made it even better this time with the support of BYLC and Skill Hunt Bangladesh. We will arrange more such events in future to provide exposure to FBS students and groom them to compete in global platforms."

Md Al Fahim Mazumder from the champion team said, "It was a fabulous journey which taught me how to come out of the shackle of introversion." Nawshin Nawar Ullah of 'Team Ecnomiasts' defined Freshmen Glory in such manner: 'A platform to bond and learn.' Another member from the Champion team, Tamzid Ibrahim, termed the event as an 'exhilarating experience'.

Where a lot of talents go unseen due to lack of proper guidance now-a-days, Freshmen Glory exposes them to new opportunities and gives them a boost in their confidence. The Spartans' Communication Club  will organise more events like this to contribute in the development of business students.
