RU teacher suspended for derogatory FB posts about Nasim

The authorities of Rajshahi University suspended Kazi Jahidur Rahman, an assistant professor of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department, after his arrest on charge of making derogatory remarks about late Awami League leader Muhammad Nasim on Facebook.

The decision was taken in the 499th syndicate meeting of the university held at vice-chancellor’s house around 10:00am on Saturday, said University proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman.

University vice-chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan presided over the syndicate meeting.

The teacher was arrested from his residence at RU campus quarter around 2:00am on June 18 in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, said Md Asaduzzaman, assistant sub-inspector of Motihar police station of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Advocate Tapos Kumar Saha, a resident of Sagorpara area in Rajshahi city filed the case under 25, 28 and 31 sections of the act against Kazi Jahidur Rahman.

The RU teacher criticised Nasim in two Facebook posts on June 1 and 2 at that time when the former minister was battling for life at a hospital in Dhaka, reports UNB.
