US arranges another chartered flight for its citizens in BD

The US Embassy in Bangladesh has arranged another chartered flight for its citizens and their families due to the high demand amid the ongoing pandemic.

The special flight is expected to depart Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday, June 5.

The embassy has issued a travel alert to this end on its website on Wednesday.

The final destination of this flight is John F Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York.

The embassy is not planning any additional flights after this one, the statement said.

It urged the US citizens who wish to return to the United States to take advantage of this opportunity or be prepared to remain in Bangladesh until commercial flights resume.

The Embassy will e-mail the citizens who have already registered their interest on its website (https://bit.ly/35bbXtW) with a link to Qatar Airways’ booking site for this flight.

Passengers must provide Qatar Airways with their information and pay the airline directly for the cost of the flight using a US-based or international credit card.

The cost is approximately $1,700 per ticket. If there is space available, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) who signed up on the website will also be sent a link to purchase a seat.

Those who wish to travel on the flight and have not filled out the registration form yet, have been advised to fill out the form as soon as possible.

The Embassy also asked not to call its office to confirm information; it will directly e-mail the interested passengers with a link to sign-up for the flight if there is space available. It also urged them to keep their phone nearby and check the e-mail regularly in case the Embassy needs to make contact.

“You will be responsible for any arrangements or costs (lodging, onward destination travel, local transportation, etc.) beyond New York.  Unfortunately, the Embassy is unable to book any onward travel or other arrangements for you”, the Embassy says.

Passengers must arrive at the airport 5 hours before departure. Unless one purchases a ticket, the citizens have been told not to come at the airport in Dhaka, according to the statement.
