Two suspected members of a robber gang were killed in a reported shootout with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kalagachhia Khal of Sundarbans' Satkhira range under Shyamnagar upazila in the early hours of Thursday.

The dead men were identified as 'Saheb Ali Bahini' chief Saheb Ali, 35, and his second-in-command Habibur Rahman, 28.

Acting on secret information, the RAB team conducted the drive in the area, said Lt Col Jahidul Kabir, commander of RAB-6.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the robber gang opened fire on them, forcing the elite force members to retaliate, triggering the shootout, reports UNB.

After an hour-long gunfight, the team arrested two robbers with bullet injuries and recovered three firearms and 32-round bullets from the spot.

The injured were taken to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared the duo dead.

Two constables Arif and Shakil were injured during the gunfight.
