The Road Transport Act (RTA), 2018 is now under implementation with some relaxation from today.
"We call upon all to abide by the act," said road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader while announcing the start of implementing the law on Sunday.
Quader was giving a lecture on the RTA at American international University, Bangladesh on its campus.
The minister said the implementation does not mean strict punishment against traffic law violation.
He said initially there will be relaxation against violation as people are yet to be fully aware of the law.
The RTA that replaces the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1983 took effect on November 1, more than a year after it was passed in parliament.
