Jatiya Party Chief Patron Raushan Ershad has said she has taken charge as the chairman of Jatiya Party.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the opposition leader in the parliament said she took the decision as per the advice and decision of senior leaders of the party.
“I Begum Raushan Ershad, MP, the founding co-chairman of Jatiya Party, hereby declare that I have taken charge of the party chairman on the advice and decision of the senior leaders of the party in the interest of maintaining its dynamism,” the press release read.
Party insiders said Jatiya Party's four co-chairmen-- Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Salma Islam, and Abu Hossain Babla--in a letter to Raushan in December last requested to take charge of the party chairperson expressing their lack of confidence in GM Quader.
They said Raushan decided to remove GM Quader from the post of party chairman due to his incompetence to run the party and his unconstitutional attitude.
Local newspapers said, citing Jatiya Party insiders, Raushan will continue her duties as chairman until the next council of the party.
However, Jatiya Party’s Secretary General Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu told a newspaper that their party has not taken such type of decision.
Describing the announcement as fake, he said, “No one can take such decision. A vested quarter has spread the fake news using name of Raushan Ershad. Jatiya Party is united under the leadership of its chairman GM Quader.”
The development comes amid ongoing three-day India visit of Jatiya Party’s incumbent chairman GM Quader. He is expected to return on Tuesday.
While talking to a newspaper, GM Quader termed Raushan Ershad’s press statement as 'ridiculous'.
