Obaidul Quader says PM to inaugurate 100 bridges at end of October

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 100 bridges simultaneously across the country at the end of this month.

"We are waiting for our leader (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina). There are little works to do on those bridges...the people of Bangladesh are almost ready. The prime minister will gift the bridges to the countrymen this month. We are waiting for the auspicious occasion," he said.

Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, made the announcement at Ganabhaban here while addressing an event organised to inaugurate Modhumoti and 3rd Shitalkhhya bridges.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Modhumoti Bridge (locally known as Kalna Bridge) in Narail and Bir Muktijodhhda AKM Nasim Osman 3rd Shitalkhhya Bridge in Narayanganj through videoconferencing.

The road transport and bridges minister said apart from making road communication smooth and easier by reducing travel time, the bridges will play a vital role in strengthening the country's economy.

"The premier, the country's people are waiting for your inauguration. The dream project of our young generation - MRT Line-6 - is getting ready for launch. You will open the project within this year too," he said.

Quader hoped that the long-cherished Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel being constructed beneath the Karnaphuli River would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the end of this year.
