The BNP said it will protest at every police station in Dhaka on Wednesday after it was refused permission to hold a rally in the capital’s Nayapaltan area.

The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the programme in a media briefing at BNP’s central office early on Monday.

“Police did not grant us permission to hold today’s rally to demand the release and proper medical treatment of Khaleda Zia at the instruction of the prime minister.”

“On behalf of the BNP I announce that we will protest in each and every police station in Dhaka North and Dhaka South.”

The BNP had previously called protests across the country on Monday, reports bdnews24.

According to the announcement, a rally was supposed to be held in front of the BNP central office at Nayapaltan around 2:00pm.

“We waited for a long time last night to see if we would get permission,” Rizvi said. “But later police said the BNP will not be allowed to hold rallies anywhere.”

“The government is afraid of the people and is oppressing us. They do not have the courage to allow BNP to hold the protest rally. We strongly condemn the government’s decision.”

A large number of police and law enforcers have been deployed in front of the BNP central office since morning in preparation for a potential protest. Water tanks, armoured vehicles and a prison van were seen near the BNP office.
