AL observes 69th founding anniversary

Leaders and activists of ruling Awami League observed 69th founding anniversary of the party on Friday.

AL leaders and its front organisations paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi on the occasion of anniversary.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at his portrait.

The cabinet members and party lawmakers accompanied her during that time.

Then Sheikh Hasina along with party leaders placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of Awami League.

Later, the Prime Minister inaugurated the newly constructed head office building of Awami League at Bangabandhu Avenue at a ceremony.

The ceremony included hoisting of the national flag by the Prime Minister and party flag by party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader and playing the national anthem.

The Prime Minister released pigeons and balloons and planted a sapling in front of the building. And prayers were offered on the occasion.

Later, the Prime Minister flanked with central leaders of the party visited different rooms of the office building.

Sheikh Hasina also addressed a special extended meeting with AL leaders came from across the country at Ganabhaban in Dhaka marking the party’s founding day.

The party was formed as Awami Muslim League on June 23 of 1949 at the historic Rose Garden in Old Dhaka City. Later, the party was renamed as Awami League.
