Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said Bangladesh may witness a worse coronavirus outbreak in April and called on everyone to be on the alert for this.

She, however, expressed hope that whatever the situation it could be overcome in any way, while speaking at a video conference with public representatives and officials of 15 districts of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions from her official residence, Ganabhaban, at 10am today, or on Tuesday, on the coronavirus situation.

The prime minister also asked the authorities concerned to make a list of those low-income people who are struggling during this crisis but are ashamed of seeking help about it, and send relief to their doorsteps.

Citing the announcement of a Tk 727.5-billion stimulus package to overcome the possible coronavirus impact on the economy, she directed all concerned to spend the money appropriately.

She strongly warned against any corruption in this regard, saying “We’ll not give a little concession to this end.”

Coronavirus cases have surged in the country with 35 of them reported on Monday – the highest single-day cases since three first known cases were confirmed on March 07 last – and the total being 123 until that day.
