Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said the message, now swirling in social media that the 'Blue Whale' game will be planted into mobile phones, is nothing but a hoax.

The regulator said that someone was using their name to spread such fake message to create panic among the public.

"It's a false and fabricated message. BTRC did not send any such message," BTRC Secretary Sarwar Alam said on Friday, reports bdnews24.com.

He also said, "internet and mobile phone users should not be misguided by such message."

Alam said that spreading such misleading message using BTRC's name was a punishable offence.

A message purportedly issued by the BTRC said that "all android mobile phones would be infected with the Blue Whale game between 9pm to 10pm on Friday and the phone data would also be hacked."

Blue Whale or The Blue Whale Challange is an online game that allegedly led the gamers to take their own life when they reach the final stage of the game.

Philipp Budeikin, a psychology student who was rusticated from a University in Russia, invented the game in 2013. He was arrested after 16 girls killed themselves by suicide after playing the game.

Bangladesh authorities asked the BTRC to investigate after case of suicide relating to the game is reported in the media.

Following the home ministry instruction, the BTRC issued a message three days ago saying that if anyone noticed anything on Blue Whale game online, they could report to BTRC by dialing 2872.

But they said that the latest message of infecting mobile phones with the killer game spread on their name was a fake one.
