A Bagerhat court has sentenced a man to death, another to life-term imprisonment and 29 others to five years jail each for killing a man over a disputed land in 2001.
The condemned convict is Athab Ali, son of Yusuf Tarafdar of Dema village of Sadar upazila while the lifer is Abdur Rashid.
Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Bagerhat Additional District and Sessions Judge Court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.
Among 31 accused of the case, 25, including Athab, were present on the dock while the others were tried in absentia.
UNB said citing case statement, on June 18 in 2001, the convicts shot and hacked Sohrab Ali Sheikh to death over a piece of land at Gazirhat in Morelganj upazila. A case was filed in this connection.
