The High Court has issued a contempt of court ruling against Chairman of Land Reforms Board, Md Yeakub Ali Patwary, and three others as they leased some tenanted (projabili) properties violating an earlier order of the High Court that asked to maintain status quo over the issue.

Three other persons are--- Dhaka Nawab Estate's Manager Mohammad Hossain, Assistant Manager Yasir Arafat and Legal Officer Md Zakir Hossain.

The HC asked the four persons to explain in four weeks as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them and as to why they should not be punished for not implementing its directives.

The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order on November 30 this year after holding hearing on a petition filed in this regard.

Following a writ petition, High Court bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal on January 08 in 2019 directed the respondents to maintain status quo in leasing some tenanted (projabili) properties in Savar area.

These properties are defined as 'projabili properties' in the Projabili Property Gazette dated April 01, 1952 and published by the Ministry of Land under section 3 of the State Acquisition and Tenancy Act, 1950.

But the respondents on February 06 in 2020 leased some tenanted (projabili) properties of that area violating the High Court order.

Then the writ petitioner Md Obaidul Islam filed a petition with the High Court seeking contempt of court ruling against the respondents. Upon hearing, the High Court issued the ruling.

Advocate Khalilur Rahman and Advocate Md Rashidul Karim took part in the hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner.
