Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said the government has no intention to spilt BNP as the party will face it due to its internal feud.

"BNP is now in a fragile condition. What's the necessity for the government to split such a party? BNP has enemies within itself. Leaders of the party have already started talking in contradictory tones and tunes," he said.

The AL leader further said, "If BNP now faces any split, it'll happen only because of the party's internal conflict. We need not divide the party."

He came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after signing the construction deal for four-lane highway stretching from Tangail's Elenga to Rangpur, reports UNB.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said their government wants BNP MPs to join parliament as they want a strong opposition in the House.

He said they surely do not consider BNP as a weak party though the party has become chaotic one due to its wrong politics and activities.

Quader is also skeptical about the existence of Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikyafront as he thinks BNP's unity with the partners of the alliance will not last long.

He said the upcoming upazila elections will be competitive ones, even though BNP does not join the local body polls.
