Influx of Rohingyas continuing through Ukhia, Teknaf

COX'S BAZAR, Sept 18: Exodus of fleeing Rohingyas from the troubled Rakhine State of Myanmar continued through different borders in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas of Cox's Bazar district till Sunday evening, locals and official sources said.

 

According to sources, more than 4.5 lac Rohingya people entered Bangladesh crossing Naf river so far after 25 August.

 

Co-ordinator of International Organisation of Migration (IMO) Shongjukta Shahanee confirmed this figure to this correspondent.

 

On the other hand more than 1 lac Rohingya Muslims awaiting in the nomens land near Tumbru border points of Bangladesh-Myanmar border to enter into Bangladesh land, new Rohingyas and bordering sources said.

 

Locals and Rohingyas said that persecution of Myanmar army on Rohingyas continuing till Sunday afternoon.

 

They have seen huge smoke was emitting in Mongdaw and Bhuchidang townships on Sunday morning, noon and evening as Myanmar army set fire on the houses of Rohingyas near 30 km of Bangladesh border.

 

On the other hand new arrived Rohingyas in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas facing a lot of problems due to lack of food, sanitation and medicine. Provided relief materials cannot mitigate demand of huge Rohingyas.

 

Thousands of newly arrived Rohingyas staying at embankment of fish farms in Anjuman Para, Balukhali of Ukhia upazila and Shahparir dip of Teknaf upazila.

 

Cox's Bazar district health department has taken initiative to vaccinate Rohingya children as diseases breaks out in the refugee camps.

 

Civil Surgeon Dr. Abdus Salam said that 270 medical teams have been formed to vaccinate Rohingya children.

 

Vaccines of measles, polio and rubella are being provided to Rohingya children.
