Govt working to make green economy a reality: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said the government is working to establish green economy, which is environment-friendly, low-carbon emission and climate tolerable, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"In 2030, Bangladesh will reduce five to 15 per cent of carbon in electricity, transport and industrial sectors. And that's why the government is accelerating the activities of green industrialisation and green products," he said.

The industries minister said this while speaking at a plenary session, titled 'Role of 3R and Fresh Air-Air Pollution Circular Economy' of the 'High Level Eighth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific' in Madhya Pradesh of India yesterday, according a message received today.

Amu said the government is sincerely working to increase the use of renewable energy in households and industries, reports BSS.

"We've already set up solar panels on the rooftop of over four million houses across the country. Now, about 160 million people are using solar panels," he said.
