A Lakshmipur court on Tuesday sentenced four people to death for killing a woman in 2016.

The condemned convicts are Sharmin Akter, Sharmin’s friend Jamal, Nazim and Jashim of Dharmapur village in Sadar upaizla. All of them were tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Jakera Begum, mother-in-law of Sharmin, was strangulated to death by the convicts following the extramarital relation between Sharmin and Jamal at Dharmapur village in Sadar upazila on July 14, 2016.

Khoshed Alam, brother-in-law of Sharmin, filed a case with Sadar Police Station on the following day, UNB reported.

After examining the records and witnesses, Senior District and Sessions Judge Mohamamd Shahenur handed down the verdict.
