Police have detained a suspect over the murder of an 18-year-old boy in Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Md Mamun, resident of upazila’s Aral village. Police believe he was killed in connection with a cricket match.

At least 15 to 20 youths were playing cricket on Friday afternoon at the Itakhola field in the area, said Md Abu Bakar Siddique, chief of Kapasia police station.

“Mamun and Shawn fought over the match score. A 17-year-old boy attacked Mamun with a knife. Mamun was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.”

The rest of the players seized the boy and handed him over to police, OC Abu Bakar said.

Mamun’s body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, reports bdnews24.
