Schoolgirl killing: police detain Prime accused

Police arrested the key accused of a schoolgirl murder case from Jalalabad area of Sylhet early Thursday, five days after the killing.

The arrestee was Yahiya, 22, son of Jamal Miah of the same upazila.

Superintendent of Sunamganj police Md Barkatullah Khan said after tracing the location of the accused using technology, three teams of police, led by additional superintendent of Sunamganj police Habibullah, conducted a drive at Masuk Bazar in Jalalabad area and arrested Yahia around 1 am,

The SP, at a press conference at his office around 10 am, also said during primary interrogation, the accused confessed his guilt.

On December 16, Munni Akter, a class X student of Dirai Girls' High School, was stabbed to death allegedly by a young man, who had an affair with the girl in Dirai upazila, as per UNB report.

Later on December 17, Munni's mother filed a murder case.

Police arrested Tanvir, one of the main accused, from Dirai upazila on the day.
