‘Robber’ dies in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a so-called gunfight with members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Saharpur in Phulpur upazila under Mymensingh early Saturday.

SA Newazi, additional superintendent of police (Crime), said a DB team arrested suspected robber Shaon from Jashore in connection with killing a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Zahirul Haque and snatching his auto-rickshaw on March 24.

After he made a confessional statement at court, the DB team conducted a drive along with Shaon early in the morning to arrest the other robbers.

Sensing the presence of police, Shaon’s associate opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

According to bdnews24, the gunfight left an unidentified robber dead on the spot, claimed Newazi.

Later, the body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
