Police arrest two over Eden College ex-principal murder

Police arrested two people in connection with the murder of former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin from Dhaka city's Mirpur and Netrokona district on Friday.

The arrestees are Rita Akhtar alias Swapna, 35, a housemaid of the victim, and Runu alias Rakiber Ma, who used to supply house helps, and a residence of Mirpur area.

Police recovered the body of Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin from her apartment at Sukanya Tower at Elephant Road on Sunday night.

Later, her husband Ismat Quadir Gama, vice-chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, filed a case with New Market Police Station on Monday accusing Reshma, 30, and Rita Akhter alias Swapna, 36.

Briefing reporters at the police station compound in the afternoon, Deputy Police Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sarder of Ramna division said based on secret information, a team of the police station arrested Swapna from Fatehpur village in Netrokona in the early hours of Friday.

The team also recovered a gold chain, Tk 7000 cash and a vanity bag of the victim, as per a UNB report.

Swapna used to work as a housemaid in the victim's house. Primarily, she reportedly confessed her involvement in the killing, the police officer said.

Besides, police also arrested Resma from Mirpur area on Friday noon in connection with the killing, he added.
