Mother, four others get life term for killing son in Laxmipur

A tribunal in Laxmipur on Tuesday sentenced a mother and four of her accomplices to life term imprisonment for killing her son Muradul Islam Sumon in 2014.

The convicts are victim's mother Hasina Begum, brother Md Sohel, and three other accomplices -- Md Saddam Hossain, Abdur Rahim and Ismail Hossain Prokas alias Kala Ismail of different upazilas of the district.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment, reports UNB.

According to the prosecution, Muradul Islam Sumon of Shahpur village in Laxmipur Sadar upazila, went missing on February 6, 2014 and he was later found dead in a canal after two days.

Soon after the incident, deceased's mother Hasina filed a case with Kamalganj Police Station against some unidentified people on February 9.

Later, police arrested a young man Saddam and he confessed that following a family feud, Sumon's mother Hasina and brother Md Sohel and three other hired killers committed the murder and hid the body in a canal.

Based on the information, the case's investigation officer sub-inspector Abul Bashar submitted a charge sheet before the court on September 14, 2014.

After examining the records and statements of 10 witnesses, judge Josim Uddin of Laxmipur District and Sessions Judge Court, handed down the verdict.
