‘Fellow member’ stabs SUST BCL leader

A Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was stabbed allegedly by a fellow on the campus on Sunday.

The victim is Zahid Hasan, organising secretary of SUST BCL and a Master's student of Political Science department, reports UNB.

Witnesses said Abdur Rashid Russell, mass education affairs secretary of the BCL unit and a Master's student of Social Works department, swooped on Zahid at Block-C of Shahpara Hall around 2:30pm and stabbed him in the abdomen, leaving him injured.

The injured BCL leader was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where he underwent a surgery, said university Proctor Zahir Uddin Ahmed. "Zahid was kept in the intensive care unit of the hospital as his condition is critical," he said.

The proctor, however, said they could not be sure who attacked Zahid.

Rashid and Zahid had been at loggerheads for the last few days over sharing a room, said hall sources.
