EC employee, two others remanded over NID forgery

A Chattogram court on Wednesday placed three people, including an Election Commission (EC) employee, on remand of different terms for allegedly helping Rohingyas get national identity (NID) cards of Bangladesh.

Joynal Abedin, office assistant of Double Mooring election office, was put on a three-day remand while Bijoy Das and his sister Sima Das alias Sumaiya Akhter were placed on a two-day remand.

Judge of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court Mehnaz Rahman passed the order when Counter Terrorism unit produced them before his court seeking remand for interrogating them.

Police arrested the trio on September 16. Later, Pallabi Chakma, election officer of Double Mooring office, filed a case against five people, including them, with Kotwali Police Station the following day, reports UNB.
