‘Drug trader’ dies in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups at Dakhshin Lengurbil adjacent to the Bay of Bengal in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Farid Alam, 30, son of Prokash Md Alam, a resident of the area.

Teknaf Model Police Station’s officer-in-charge Pradip Kumar Das was quoted by UNB news agency as saying that on information about a gunfight between two groups of yaba traders, a team of them conducted a drive in the area at around 4:00 am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the drug traders fled the scene.

Later, the police team recovered the body, two locally-made arms and 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets from the spot.
