Drug suspect sustains injuries in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was injured in a reported gunfight with police at Baliadying under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi early Sunday.

The injured was identified as Matiur Rahman Moti, 30, son of Amir of Charkanapara in the upazila, and an accused in 10 drug-related cases. He was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

Abdur Razzak, senior assistant superintendent of the district police, said police conducted a drive in the area at around 3:00 am to recover arms and drugs, UNB reported.

When the law enforcers reached the area, a gang of drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence and triggering the gunfight, leaving Moti and three other policemen injured.

Police recovered four machetes, 200gm of heroine and cash Tk from the spot.
