Cops recover narcotics, arms in Gaibandha raids

District police in separate anti drug drives recovered a substantial quantity of narcotics worth about Tk 3.6 million and arms from the drug traders in last few days from May 17 to May 26.

The drugs included 4,000 pieces of yaba pills, 175 gram of heroine, 16 kgs of hemp, and 55 bottles of contraband Indian phensidyl which totals to Tk 36,00,000.

A country made shot gun along with two rounds of bullet were also recovered from an infamous drug dealer Jewel Miah of Old Bridge Road of the district town on Friday after he was shot dead in gun battle with the police, said a press release.

Apart from it, a total of 85 criminals including drug traders, addicts, gamblers, listed terrorists and accused suspects in different cases were also arrested during the drives and they received jail terms through different courts, said press release also said.

Superintendent of Police Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah said as part of the countrywide drives against drugs the police in Gaibandha had been conducting the raids in all the seven upazila of the district since May 17 and it will continue.

The people from all section of the district appreciated the anti drug drives undertaken by the government to help build a drug free country, reports BSS.
