Bridegroom lands in jail for early marriage attempt in Brahmanbaria

Twenty five-year old bridegroom was sentenced to one month jail term after he was caught red handed while attempting to marry a 13-year girl at Bhatpara village in Sadar upazila of in Brahmanbaria on Friday.

The mobile court of Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Pankaj Barua awarded the punishment to Deen Islam, son of Aminul Islam.

The UNO said informed by locals, he went to the village under Natai (Uttar) union and caught the bridegroom red handed for attempting to marry an underage girl in the afternoon.

The mobile court took an undertaking from the girl’s parents that they would not marry off their daughter until she turns 18 and sentenced Deen Islam one month jail under the Early Marriage Prevention Act 2017, 7(1), UNO Pankaj added.
