SUST student found hanging in Sylhet

A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was found hanging from the ceiling at his room at Kajalshah in Sylhet on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Taifur Rahman Pratik, 25, a student of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology department of the university under 2011-2012 academic session.

Sub-inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan of Kotwali Police Station said they recovered the hanging body of Pratik in the evening.

He said prima facie, it seemed that he committed suicide sometime on Sunday night.

Shanta Tawhida, victim's sister and also a teacher of Dhaka University, alleged that Pratik, who stood first class first in the Honours examination, failed to obtained desired marks in his Masters exam following supervisor's 'conspiracy', which shattered his dream to become a teacher, reports UNB.

She claimed that Pratik killed himself out of frustration.

Pratik, hailing from Narsingdi district, used to live at a room in the area.

Police sent the body to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

SUST Proctor Zahir Uddin Ahmed said further action will be taken after taking to his family members.
