‘Smugglers’ held with 41 gold bars in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested four alleged smugglers along with 41 gold bars at Amrakhali in Benapole on Sunday.

The arrestees are Anisur Rahman, 24, Riaz Molla, 25, Sabuj Mridha, 21 and Tanfir Zaman, 18, hailing from Faridpur, Madaripur and Khulna distircts

Lt Col Selim Reza, commanding officer BGB-49 battalion said, tipped off, a BGB team stopped a Beanpole-bound bus at noon and recovered the gold bars worth Tk 2.11 crore after searching it. They arrested four smugglers from the bus.

The arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after interrogation, he added.

A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
