Separate road crashes in Savar kill three

Two motorcycle passengers and a pedestrian have been killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka’s Savar upazila.

The incidents occurred on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Ashulia’s Nayarhat area and on in the Majidpur Road on Saturday, police said.

The dead have been identified as Afrin Akhtar, her son Abdullah, 5, and Mahela Khatun, 55.

According to Ashulia Police SI Emdadul Haque, Akhtar and her son Abdullah were travelling with her husband Sohel Rana on a motorcycle from Manikganj to Savar when the vehicle was struck from behind by a truck in the Nayarhat area.

Akhtar was killed on the spot, while her son and husband were taken to a local hospital. Abdullah later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have yet to detain the truck or the driver, according to bdnews24.com.

Mahela Khatun was run over by a bus in Savar’s Majidpur area.

Savar Police SI Dipankar Ray said that an Itihash Paribahan bus ran her over.

Locals managed to stop and detain the bus, but the driver fled, the SI said.
