NETRAKONA, Sept 30: The slow progress in the repair work of Mymensingh Road's Netrakona section has increased sufferings of the locals.

A good number of locals said they are dissatisfied over the delay in the development work.

The district headquarters is about 5.0 km off Shyamganj Bazar in the eastern part of the district.

Locals said travellers have been suffering over the present condition of the road for the last four months.

Netrakona Roads and Highways Department (RHD) sources said the distance to Shyamganj on the Netrakona-Mymensingh Highway from the district headquarters is about 6.0 km. In January last year, the work order on renovation and expansion of the road was issued. The completion date of this work was fixed for July 23.

Some locals said road accidents have become very common in the area due to dilaspidated state of the road.

Mozahidul Islam Sabuj, secretary of Netrakona District Press Club and a resident of the Hiranpur area, said the road repairing work was not completed on time due to negligence of the contractors.

Maintenance Engineer of RHD, Mymensingh Circle Md Ataur Rahman said the contractors have been asked to finish the work by December.
