Rangpur coriander leaf growers expect good yield

RANGPUR, Nov 01: The growers of early cultivated coriander leaves in the district are expecting a good yield of their produce during the current season as congenial weather conditions prevail across the region.

Coriander leaf is cultivated aplenty at villages Annadanagor, Chhawla, Deuti and Nabdiganj under Pirgachha upazila, Paschim Mandrain, Changmari in Gangachara upazila, Pairaband, Boiragiganj,  Ranipukur at Mithapukur upazila, Baniapara,  Alampur of Taraganj upazila, Nazirdaho, Thakurdas in Kawnia and Keshobpur, Palichara area under Rangpur Sadar upazila, sources said. 

According to sources, coriander leaf growers in the district have been getting an excellent output of their produce for the last several years which is encouraging them to enhance its cultivation across the district.

Due to handsome profit, peasants are showing interest in the cultivation of different varieties of early winter vegetables including coriander leaf over the cultivation of some other crops, sources said.

Harun Mia, a farmer at Nabdiganj village under Pirgachha upazila told this FE correspondent that he cultivated coriander leaves on 25 decimals of land during this season and the condition of its growth is satisfactory.

Growers are expecting to begin the harvest after one week, he said. Last year he earned satisfactory profit from coriander leaf sale, he added.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Rangpur office sources said the peasants under the district have been earning good profit through farming different varieties of early winter vegetables including coriander leaves in recent years.

Satisfactory prices as well as huge demand have encouraged the cultivators to cultivate coriander leaves and other winter vegetables on a large scale, sources added.

DAE is also giving the growers adequate advices in this regard so that they can get predictable output of their produces, sources added.
