PABNA, Sept 05: Off-season bean cultivators in Ishwardi upazila of the district are happy over the present market price. They are making a good profit from the produce this season.

Each kg of bean is selling at Tk 100 to Tk 120 in the retail markets and Tk 90 to Tk 95 in the wholesale markets.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), around 30 hectares of land have been brought under the production of off-season bean.

Some DAE officials said bean is being grown in the district round the year. Low production cost, high yield and good price encourage the cultivators to grow the vegetable.

Farmer Alim Uddin said, "Growers usually start farming the vegetable at the beginning of Bangla month of Srabon." The bean can be harvested after 60 days of sowing the seeds, he added.

Farmer Mozammel Gulsan said he has cultivated bean on 10 decimals of land . He has recently started harvesting the item and earned Tk 12,000 already.

He expressed the hope of making a profit of Tk 30,900.
