Noakhali gunfight leaves two ‘pirates’ dead

Two alleged members of a pirate gang, including its ringleader, were killed during a ‘gunfight’ with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sutlar Ghat area in Hatia upazila of Noakhali on early Tuesday.

Jasim Uddin, Commanding Officer of RAB-11, said being tipped-off, a team of elite force conducted a drive in the area around 4:00 am.

Sensing the presence RAB team, the pirates opened fire at them prompting the team members to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Later, the law enforcers recovered the bodies of Saiful Islam (35), alleged Commander of 'Saiful Bahini' and Shafiq (24), Second in Command, hailing from Kalir-chor area of the upazila.

The RAB members also recovered 6 firearms, 10 rocket flares, 37 mobile phone sets and Tk 54000 from the spot.

Two wounded law enforcers are undergoing treatment at Subarnachar Upazila Health Complex, according to local agencies.
