Mudslide at Sylhet stone quarry claims lives of four

Four workers were killed and three others injured in a mudslide while they were extracting stones from a quarry in Bholaganj area of Companiganj upazila under Sylhet district on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Ruhul Amin, 22, and Motibur, 32, residents of Muradpur area, Ashik Ali, 30, a resident of Cholerbando village in Dakhshin Sunamganj upazila and Atabur, 40, a resident of Kolokka village in Jamalganj upazila, news agency UNB reports.

Quoting locals, Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said the mud of the stone quarry collapsed on the workers while they were extracting stones around 9:30pm.

On information, police recovered the bodies of Ruhul Amin and Motibur around 11:30pm.

Police also retrieved two other bodies from the quarry on Monday morning.

A bdnews24 report said that three workers – Raqibul, Firoze Ali and Ruhul have been admitted to the Companyganj Upazila Heaalth Complex with injuries. Quarry labour boss Abdul Rauf, 50, has been detained by police.
