Locals stop woman’s burial over Covid-19 fear in Feni

Locals stopped the burial of a woman at Abupur village in Feni Sadar Upazila on Monday, suspecting that she might have died from coronavirus.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nasrin Sultana said Hajera Begum, 60, died due to kidney complications at a private hospital in Dhaka.

Relatives took her body to Abupur village for burial on Monday night, reports UNB.

As the news spread, locals stopped the ambulance from entering the village and vandalised it.

Alamgir Hossain, an inspector at Feni Model Police Station, said they went there and took the situation under control.

Jan-e Alam, chairman of the local union parishad, said villagers stopped the burial suspecting that the women died from coronavirus. Hajera, hailing from the village, had long been residing in Dhaka, he said.

She was later buried at the Sultanpur graveyard in the municipality area.
