Hilsa production increases 6,000 mts

The production of hilsa has increased 6,000 mts this year following the government's steps to save mother hilsa during its breeding period, Fisheries Department said.

 

The production of hilsa was 19,810 mts during the fiscal year 2015-2016 while it is 25,810 mts in the 2016-2017 FY, said Shafiqur Rahman, an official of District Fisheries Department.

 

He said this while he was speaking at a view exchange meeting on the National Fisheries Week held at Chandpur Press Club auditorium in Chandpur district on Tuesday.

 

He also said that there are 46,664 listed fishermen while the inclusion of 10,000 more fishermen is underway.

 

The demand of fish in the district is 51,187.100 mts while the production of fish is 25,222.900 mts which is inadequate for the people in the district, he added.

 

He also urged all to work for the implementation of the National Fisheries Week
