Four to die for killing schoolboy in Makinganj

A court in Manikganj on Tuesday sentenced four people to death and three others to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in Makinganj in 2014.

The condemned convicts are Sohel, Rakibul Islam, Rafiqul Islam and Sultan Mahmud while the lifers are Rubel, Sajib Khan and Akibul. Of them, Sultan and Sajib were tried in absentia.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each.

According to the prosecution, Zahirul Islam, a class VIII student and son of Khokon Mia, was found dead in a septic tank at Khasherchar village in Singair upazila on September 17, 2014, two days after he had gone missing.

The convicts abducted him and sliced him into five pieces following previous enmity, UNB reported.

Victim's father filed a case with Singair Police Station. Eight suspects were named in police chargesheet on June, 2017.

After examining the records and 27 witnesses, Shahidul Alam Jhinuk handed down the verdict.
