Road crashes kill five

Five people – three in Rangpur and two in Sherpur – were killed in two separate road accidents on Wednesday.

In the Rangpur road crash, according to witnesses, 25 people were injured as a bus collided head-on with a pickup van at Ekorchali in Taraganj upazila in the evening.

Taraganj Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Zinat Ali said all the injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. Of them, three died soon afterwards. 

Two of the deceased have been identified as Shahabuddin, 50, and Oli Ahmad, 12, hailing from Nilphamari district and the third is yet to be named.

In the Sherpur accident, two teenage boys were killed while another got injured when a pick-up van rammed their incoming motorcycle at Chaitajani in Sreebardi in the afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Rian Hossain, 15 and Bappi Miah, 16 from Baniapara village of the district.

Sreebardi Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Haque said, the road crash took place around 2pm leaving the victims severely injured, reports UNB.

Rian and Bappi succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital while the injured was being treated at a local hospital.
