Five cops injured in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

Five policemen and two others were injured during a reported gunfight between with robbers at Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Tuesday.

Police also arrested two robbers, Mohsin; 37, son of Razu Mia and Md Ripon; 23, son of Jalil Mia of Bajra village in Daudkandi upazila, from the spot.

Acting on a tip-off that some robbers took position at Nandanpur area, four teams of police including Detective Branch (DB) conducted a drive at Nandanpur area of the upazila.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, reports UNB.

As the law enforcers retaliated, it triggered a gunfight, leaving the five policemen and two members of the gang injured.

The injured cops were identified as Nasir Uddin Mridha, officer-in-charge of DB, Inspector Firoz Hossain, sub-inspectors of local police station-- Shah Alam Akanda and Sohidul Islam, and constable Md Kamal uddin.

Police recovered a locally made gun and a foreign made pistol from the spot.
