Five children among six die in Sylhet stone quarry collapse

Five madrasa students, including two siblings, and another local residence were killed as a portion of hill collapsed on them while they were extracting stones from a hillock in union No 1 of Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Zakir, 16, brothers Nahid, 13, and Shakil, 12, Maruf, 13, Abdul Kadir, 13 and Sundar Ali, 35.

The incident occured in 'Banglatila' owned by Forest Department around 9:00 am, leaving five dead on the spot, said Abdul Ahad, Officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station.

Police are trying to rescue the missing children, according to agencies.
