PM to apprise world of Rohingya crisis

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will apprise the heads of the governments of the Commonwealth countries of the latest scenario of the ongoing Rohingya crisis at the upcoming Commonwealth summit.

The summit is scheduled to be held on April 19-20 in London, Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali said at a press conference at his ministry Thursday.

The Commonwealth in its pre-summit meetings already stressed the need for sustainable return of the Rohingyas in Myanmar, and for ensuring accountability of those who had committed atrocities against them.

Ali said there is a possibility of a meeting between Prime Minister Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in the sideline of the summit but the schedule is not finalised yet.

The prime minister will also be the main speaker at a seminar on ‘Educate to Empower’ which will be organised by the Commonwealth Women Forum as a pre-summit event.

Besides, she will deliver the main speech at a seminar organised by reputed think-tank Overseas Development Institute'.

Hasina will dwell on the policy narratives of Bangladesh's recent development initiatives and advancements.

The prime minister will leave home for Dammam, Saudi Arabia on April 15, to attend the concluding ceremony of a military drill and then start for London on April 16. She will return home on April 23.
