A top official of BRAC is now in the Swiss capital to drum up support from the international community for the forcefully-displaced Rohingya people of Myanmar.

According to a press release on Sunday, BRAC Executive Director Dr. Muhammad Musa is scheduled to address a pledging conference, organised by the UN, the EU and the Government of Kuwait, on Monday at the Palace of Nations in Geneva.

He is expected to address the leaders and key representatives from member states, humanitarian aid organisations and donor bodies.

The Joint Response Plan, which has been developed by the United Nations and its implementation partners like BRAC, requires USD 434 million to support the forcefully-displaced Myanmar citizens and the host community in Bangladesh.

This event will provide the governments and authorities from various nations to show their solidarity and take responsibility of dealing with this crisis.

The key points that Dr. Musa is set to emphasise on include the current situation of the near 600,000 people that have arrived since August 25 this year, their immediate needs, existing as well as imminent challenges, and the strategic plan moving forward.

BRAC, aside from the government of Bangladesh, is the only non-government organisation from the country to play a critical role in gathering support for the current humanitarian crisis. This is an important platform for BRAC to shape discussions on the response process and draw the attention of the global community to its efforts, the release added.
