Banks may be kept open during lockdown

The country's banks are likely to remain open during the weeklong stricter lockdown from Wednesday.

The Cabinet Division on Tuesday requested the central bank to take the necessary steps for providing banking services to people on a limited scale.

The Bangladesh Bank on Monday decided that all banks would be kept closed during the lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The central bank is now working on issuing a revised order following the request from the Cabinet Division, officials concerned said.
