Bangladesh reports 98 virus deaths, 4,014 new cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 98 new fatalities from the coronavirus in a day, taking the death toll to 10,781.

The caseload surged to 736,074 after 4,014 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8:00am Thursday, according to data released by the government.

Another 7,266 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 642,449.

As many as 27,429 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 14.63 per cent.

The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 87.28 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.46 per cent.

Globally, over 143.87 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.05 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019, reports bdnews24.com.
