Bangladesh 12th most corrupt country

Bangladesh has slipped one step lower in global corruption perception index (CPI) in 2022 as it has been placed at the 12th from the bottom among 180 countries.

Bangladesh has scored 25 out of 100, which is the 12th lowest among 180 countries, in the CPI prepared by the Berlin-based Transparency International (TI).

Bangladesh’s rank from top is 147th among 180 countries, same as 2021, TI reveals.

The index also said the 2022 score is one point lower than 2021, 2020, 2019 and 2018.

It has ranked Bangladesh as the second most corrupt country in South Asia after Afghanistan.

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said the performance is disappointing while presenting the report at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday.

Our score is among 122 countries that scored below 50 which are considered as having a ‘serious corruption problem’, he said.

“We are also well below the global average of 43 indicating even more grave concern”, he added.
