'Animal waste to be removed within 24 hrs'

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has said the waste of sacrificial animals will be removed within 24 hours of the day of Eid-ul-Azha.

The DSCC mayor said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with the Waste Management Committee members at Dhaka South Nagar Bhaban on Sunday, reports UNB.

Sayeed also called upon the city dwellers to slaughter their animals at designated spots under DSCC to avoid environmental and health hazards.

Some 200,000 waste bags will be distributed among the city dwellers under DSCC for keeping animal wastes, he said.

Besides, a hotline -- 0961100099 -- will be opened for informing cleaners to take immediate steps for removing wastes.

A total 2,954 spots were designated this year in 11 city corporations of the country for slaughtering sacrificial animals during the Eid-ul-Azha.

Among the spots, there are 620 in Dhaka South, 543 in Dhaka North, 210 in Rajshahi, 314 in Chattogram, 163 in Khulna, 135 in Barisal, 36 in Sylhet, 183 in Narayanganj, 117 in Rangpur, 190 in Cumilla and 443 in Gazipur.

There are now 11.6 million sacrificial animals in the country for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha against last year's 10.4 million, according to the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry.
