AL finalises 41 nominations for JS women reserved seat polls

Awami League (AL) has picked 41 women as its candidates for the election to the reserved seats of the 11th parliament, which will be held on March 4 next.

The ruling party on Friday finalised the contenders at a joint meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Board and its Local Government Nomination Board, held with AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her official residence Ganobhaban in the city.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced this while briefing reporters after the meeting, reports UNB.

According to the proportional representation in parliament, Awami League will get women MPs from 43 reserved seats, Jatiya Party from four seats, BNP from one and others will get the remaining two seats.

However, the ruling party did not announce the names for the rest two seats.

The deadline for submission of nomination papers will expire on February 11.

The Election Commission on February 3 announced the election schedule for the 50 parliamentary reserved seats, which are exclusively for women.

The AL 41 candidates are Anjum Sultana (Cumilla), Sultana Nadira (Barguna), Hosne Ara (Jamalpur), Rumana Ali (Gazipur), Umme Fatema Nazma Begum (Brahmanbaria), Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali (Netrakona), Sheikh Any Rahman (Pirojpur), Aparajita Haque (Tangail), Shamima Akter Khanam (Sunamganj), Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan (Gazipur), Fazilatun Nesa (Munshiganj), Rabeya Alim (Nilphamari), Tamanna Nusrat Bubli (Narsingdi), Nargis Rahman (Gopalganj), Manira Sultana (Mymensingh), Nahid Ijhar Khan (Dhaka), Khaleda Khanam (Jhenaidah), Syeda Rubina Mira (Barishal), Wasika Ayesha Khan (Chattogram), Kazi Kaniz Sultana (Patuakhali), Advocate Gloria Jharna Sarker (Khulna), Suborna Mostafa (Dhaka), Zakia Tabassum (Dinajpur), Farida Khanom Saki (Noakhali), Bashanti Chakma (Khagrachhari), Kaniz Fatema Ahmed (Cox's Bazar), Roshema Begum (Faridpur), Syeda Rashida Begum (Kushtia), Syeda Zohra Alauddin (Moulvibazar), Adina Anjum Mita (Rajshahi), Arma Dutta (Comilla), Shirina Nahar (Khunla), Ferdousi Islam Jessy (Chapainawaganj), Parvin Haque Sikder (Shariatpur), Sajeda Nusrat (Rajbari), Shabna Jahan Shila (Dhaka), Khadizatul Anwar (Chattogram), Zakia Parvin Khanam (Netrakona), Tahmina Begum (Madaripur), Shirin Ahmed (Dhaka) and Zinnatul Bakia (Dhaka).
